Ana Vitorino

Resident Artists

(Setúbal, 1973)

Founded Visões Úteis in 1994; here she works as a playwright, director and performer, and was Artistic Director until 2021.

Her artistic activity began in CITAC, a theatre company from the University of Coimbra. There she trained with Paulo Lisboa, João Grosso, Andrejev Kowalski, Anatoli Vassiliev, and later with Marcia Haufrecht, Joseph Danan, among others.In Visões Úteis she started working as an actress with directors such as António Feio, João Paulo Seara Cardoso, José Wallenstein, Diogo Dória.

From 1999 her activity broadened to playwriting and directing, and she the co-authored several original projects, both in theatre and performance in landscape, many of which lead to literary publishings, vídeo versions, film adaptations and inclusion in internatioal partnerships.

From 2009 to 2021, she was also responsible for the Education Service and the Associated Artists Programme of Visões Úteis, trying to integrate the artistic strategies from the contemporary performing arts in the surrounding communities, thus reinforcing the role of art as a factor of inclusion, sustainable development, political participation and happiness, namely through community performance projects.

From 2010 to 2015 she was a board member of PLATEIA (association for cultural politics).

She has a degree in Psychology - Clinical Area by the University of Coimbra and a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (Portuguese/German) by the Open University.
