“Romance of the Last Crusade” is the second original creation of Visões Úteis in 2016, a year we dedicate to the theme "Biographies". Inspired by the ways of representing war experiences, the show reflects on how the representation of biographies shapes the very construction of our memory and identity.

Romance of the Last Crusade is an original creation by Ana Vitorino and Carlos Costa and a coproduction between Visões Úteis / Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente / Teatro Municipal de Vila Real.

It opens on november 16th at Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente in Coimbra; until the end of the year it will also be shown from the 17th to the 20th november at Armazém 22 in Vila Nova de Gaia, and on the 9th of december at Casa da Cultura in Setúbal.

"Yuck Factor" Imagem: Visões Úteis

"Nowadays, everything happens very fast. We get attached to each other very quickly."

This month our new original creation opens in Porto: "Yuck Factor" proposes a menu of food and disgust, and questions the very notion of European identity.

In"Yuck Factor" we follow the work of a very particular team, as it prepares and takes on an event, suitable for guests of different nationalities.

An opportunity to clarify and share the regulations and procedures which are crucial to the success of any meeting. But also an opportunity to reflect on today's Europe, the frail construction of our common identity and the dangers of growing intolerances.

"Time after Time, Messiah after Messiah, sometimes with our noses held up high, sometimes with our heads hanging low. But always in a flock. We just keep going, don’t we?"

In "trans/mission" a musician and a playwright share with the audience their work process in the creation of an Opera, which they hope will be revolutionary. A work that deals with the struggle and hardships of trying to organize and mobilize any sort of collective - be it an artistic team, a community or a whole population... of which the Portuguese is a specially good example.

However, throughout this public presentation, the divisions between the two artists become evident, as they engage in an open conflict that threatens to ruin the whole project!

“trans/mission” is a hybrid show, mixing theatre and music, in which the artistic collaborative process is used as the mirror of a national identity that seems incapable to mobilize and to inscribe itself historically. The play uses humor to explore the tension between thinking and acting, and our apparent incapacity to move on from accurate diagnostics to concrete change.

"trans/mission" is a coproduction between Visões Úteis and the Municipal Theatre of Porto and it included, in it's creation process, a group of special partnerships and collaborations in Music (NEFUP, Sonoscopia, Porta-Jazz, Ensemble Super Moderne), Photography (Paulo Pimenta and guest photographers invited by Mira Forum) and Sociology (Departamento de Sociologia da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto).

The play opened on the 21st of May 2015 in Porto, and is currently available for touring, both in Portuguese and in English.

"Biodegradables" - a coproduction with National Theatre São João with the collaboration of two major laboratories: Grupo 3B’s  (Minho University) and IPATIMUP (Porto University)

A reflection about the physical effects of the passing of time, the way in which we deal with our finitude, as individuals and as a species, and the influence of technological ans scientific developments on our definition of "human".
